Barrier-free holiday in Tyrol, Austria
The barrier-free mountain experience in Pertisau
The Karwendel cable car is a fantastic destination and is characterized by its good accessibility from the “Inntal” and “Oberbayern”. The cable car offers perfect conditions for a barrier-free mountain experience. Directly in front of the entrance are the parking lots and a flat ramp to access the cashier’s point and the entrance to the cable car. The cable cars are stopping directly in the station so that safe and easy access is guaranteed. It is also possible to transport sports equipment such as a Swiss Trak. The width of the door of the cable cars is 90 cm. There is also a toilet with barrier-free access at the valley station.
Experience the Karwendel mountains barrier-free
Having reached the summit you can enjoy the fantastic view of lake Achensee and the Karwendel mountains. The mountain station is the starting point for the circular panorama trail with the alpine animals in life-size, adventure stations and dwarf story. Passing the “Bärenbadalm” and the “Alpengasthaus Karwendel” it takes about 1.5 hours to walk back to the mountain station of the cable car. A third of the path is widely gravelled and accessible for example with a Swiss Trak. Take the same way back. The rest of the path is rough terrain and not ideal for means of transportation with wheels.
A comfortable alternative to hiking would be the Hörndlstrasse. The gravelled path leads from the “Bärenbadalm” in about 2 hours through the “Tristenautal” back to the valley station.
A very well rolled gravel road with good panoramic views is the Zwölferkopfweg (Nr. 8). It takes you 4.5 km with several turns back to the valley station. Duration: approx. 2 hours.

For a break we recommend the Alpengasthaus Karwendel which can easily be reached by a 100m long gravelled path with an altitude difference of 12 m. The restaurant offers a pleasant ambiance and with a seating capacity of 80 it is also suitable for events and celebrations. The sunny and large terrace also offers plenty of seating. Big umbrellas are providing shade and protect from rain so that guest can spend their time on the terrace without any problems. Please keep in mind that the barrier-free toilets are located down at the valley station. The ride down and up again to the toilet is free of charge.
